Transfer Portal Deep Dive: Radford Bradley Land
Giving my thoughts on Radford transfer Bradley Land
As the Transfer Portal, SearchSZN, and all of the other offseason festivities comes to an end. It’s time to start looking forward, WHILE also looking back as we dive into some of the new players for ALL 9 Big South teams.
For analysis: I will pick 3 games, 1 game that stood out as a GOOD game, 1 game that stood out as a BAD game, and 1 games that was average.
(If I can’t find 3 games, I will then go to portal film/shot charts and analytics)
Bradley Land Background:
Land comes from Colorado Christianm, a small school in Lakewood, Colorado. He began his career with 2 redshirt season, one due to injury.
Land then played his first season in 2023-24 where he played 28 games (23 being starts) and was an All RMAC Honorable Mention averaging 11.1 PPG and 5.9 RPG and then built on that in 24-25 getting an All RMAC 2nd Team mention averaging 14.5 PPG and 4.8 RPG.
Bradley Land Game Notes/Review:
Bradley Land “Good” Game: 2/1/25 vs Western Colorado
Stats: 27 points (9-21 from the field), 8 rebounds, 1 assists
Very physically imposing player for the D2 level
Very high work ethic, plays almost every play with 100% effort, very evident when going for rebounds.
Not afraid to get dirt and play amongst the bigs down low, and he doesn’t seem out of place doing it.
Can also shoot the ball pretty well, especially if wide open.
UBER ATHLETIC.
Bradley Land “Average” Game: 11/22/24 vs Barclay College
Stats: 15 points (7-10 from the field), 5 rebounds, 2 assists
Notes:
Really strong at attacking the rim, gets down hill in a HURRY.
Has an almost guard like speed, especially in P&R scenarios and when driving to the rim.
Teams understand Land wants to go inside, and creates chances for his teammates to score once defense collapses on Land.
Tends to over commit on defense to guarding the paint, leaves his defender with prolly 5-10 feet of seperation.
Fights for everything, every rebound, every point.
Very good finishing ability, can finish with MULTIPLE big men around him and he does it with ease.
Bradley Land “Bad” Game: 11/26/24 vs Chadron State
Stats: 7 points (3-7 from the field), 8 rebounds, 5 assists
Really good playmaker for being a 6’7” forward, can almost run the offense as a point forward if needed.
At times can be careless with the ball/just not aware where defenders are.
Does tend to get a lot of fouls called on him.
Can switch on P&R defense and not lose too much due to his speed.
Very good paint defender.
Bradley Land Analytics/Shot Chart Review:
Good Shooting Analytics:
FGA/40 (Field Goal Attempts Per 40 Mins): 16.1 (91st Percentile)
3PT Percentage: 33.3% (65th percentile)
Free Throw Percentage: 80% (89th percentile)
Good Playmaking Analytics:
Assist Percentage: 16.9% (95th percentile)
Usage Percentage: 29.6% (98th percentile)
Assist-Usage Ratio: 0.6x (73rd percentile)
Good ALL Consuming Metrics:
RAPM and RAPM Offensive: 0.8 RAPM and 1.6 Offensive RAPM (66th percentile and 86th percentile)
Bad Analytics:
Offensive Rebounding Percentage: 5.3% (24th percentile)
Block Percentage: 1.8% (35th percentile)
Bradley Land Shot Chart Review:
Notes:
Really good 3PT shooter from the left side, especially left side below the break to the corner, shooting over 40% from those section of the court.
Doesn’t take a lot of mid ranges, most of his shots being at the rim (within 0-11 feet from the rim) and around 1/4th to 1/5th of his shots coming from behind the arc.
Not an amazing shooter on the right side, only making 1 3 pointer from that side of the court (4 if you count the shots at the top of the 3PT line) and only 6 (to 9) total counting shots outside the paint but inside the arc.
Bradley Land On-Off Stats:
Notes:
The most noticable thing I say on the On-Off chart was the first two catagories. Offensive Rating dropping 11.5 points when Land is OFF the court to him being on the court and True Shooting dropping 7.1% when Land is OFF the court. Land is a true offensive workhorse.
The Defensive Rating drop is interesting as every other metric doesn’t drop by that magnitude but when you look at Defensive Shooting percentages, it tells to story of that drop.
Bradley Land Final Thoughts:
I will be honest, I have been kind of loosely following Land from early in the 24-25 season, he just seemed like a player who was poised to jump to D1 in the offseason and when he landed at Radford, I was truly excited. This kid can play.
If you have not seen his highlight tape, please watch it, you won’t be disappointed.
Now how well do I think Land will be?
I think Land could very well be a Big South 2nd-3rd team member, if he can beat out Bey, Parker, and Jordan for one of the forward spots.
