Darris Nichols to La Salle, What's next for Radford?
Covering Darris Nichols to La Salle and giving what is next and what should be the next moves for Radford
Intro/La Salle:
Early Tuesday morning the inevitable finally happen at Radford. Darris Nichols took a promotion, while his name was linked to USF among other jobs he has found a new home in Philly, coaching at La Salle.
During his four seasons at Radford, Coach Nichols made Radford really strong even after starting 11-18 in year one, taking them to the CBI one year and probably would have again if he hadn’t left for La Salle.
Darris in the press release for La Salle stated, "My family and I are excited to move to Philadelphia and continue to build on the recent success at La Salle. I'm excited to get to work with the Athletics staff, administration, and student-athletes, and I promise that I will do everything I can to make our students, alumni, and fans proud of their Explorers on and off the court."
Radford also said their praises towards Darris in their press release, "We appreciate Darris and his efforts over the past four years and wish him and his family nothing but the best of luck in his new opportunity," Lineburg said. "Darris is an outstanding coach and we anticipate he will have continued success leading the program at La Salle."
SearchSZN:
I have heard 3 names for the Radford job from sources in which I will mention in this article with their permission.
Shane Nichols (Radford Assistant):
The brother of now former Radford HC Darris Nichols, and currently on staff at Radford, Shane Nichols should be the first call and it’s basically the consensus hire if everyone was the AD, including former Murray State guard Ja Morant.
It is know Shane will be interviewed for the job and I personally think he should be the hire.
JD Byers (Virginia Tech Assistant):
The former Radford assistant from the years of 2011 to 2014 before bouncing around from program to program, Byers is in Charlotte and will be interviewed according to HoopDirt.com
The interesting tie between Byers and Radford is that current Virginia Tech HC Mike Young and Radford AD Robert Lineburg are cousins.
Kyle Getter (Notre Dame Associate Coach/Assistant Coach):
The other former Radford assistant who hasn’t broken out to a HC role that seems to be on Radford’s short list. Getter has just like Byers bounced around program to program going from UVA to now Notre Dame.
Again Getter is one of those coaches who seems to be getting an interview during the ACC Tournament in Charlotte.
(along with those 3, HoopDirt said One Active D1 coach is in the mix, I would assume that is Donny Lind but I haven’t had that confirmed)
